The past year’s show at the Queen Mary have been good and this year was no exception. It is extremely well organized and, like the Mustangs by the Bay, it is held at beautiful location; on a green patch of lawn right next to the Queen Mary in Long Beach. A day prior to the show Long Beach was heavily hit with rain, wind and several “no-show” volunteers. Somehow they managed to get it all together, the clouds went away and the sun came out. It is hard to say what kind of day it would have been if the weather had carried over to show day. I for one was not planning to drive my car two hours from San Diego in bad weather, and then stand around under a tent or umbrella. So at 3:30 am I rolled out of bed and stuck my head out the window. “Hmmm, there are some clouds up there, no moisture on the ground and the odds seem to be in favor of no rain. I guess I am going to the show”.

Even with the threat of rain, the show still had many early birds waiting to be parked. Over 400 cars attended, just a few short of last year, along with several vendors. I know that there is some controversy about vendors at a show, but I rarely have the opportunity to see and speak to with people who cater to car enthusiasts so I enjoy to interaction. Also, the show is held in a rather remote part of the city so there would be little to break up the day other then talk to other owners about their cars and waiting for the next prize drawing.

One of the drawbacks of this how however, and a major reason several of our members decided not to attend this year, is the shows length. You must be parked by 8 am and they will not let you out of the show area until the last award is given at 4 pm. This usually turns into 5 pm by the time  all of the thanks are given, the last of the auction and prizes are awarded and the “Best of Show” award presented. By this time, people are pretty exhausted and those of us from San Diego have another 2 hour + ride back home.

My count showed that four Mustang Club of San Diego members attended with three of us getting awards. I did not get pictures of our members with awards, so if you were one of the lucky winners, please email me your pics (webmaster@sdmustangs.com), what class you were entered in and where you placed. A picture of your car would be great as well! We can then get them posted.

I won first place this year in the class of personalized 2005 – 2007 convertibles. Two of the other members won second and third place and Pat Sweeney was once again the big raffle winner with over six prizes. I bought $10 less in tickets and walked away with nothing. Poway Parade & MotorHead Madness 2007

On  September  15 the 6th Annual MotorHead  was held in conjunction with the Poway Parade.  Several MCSD members showed up early in the morning to drive dignitaries and participate in the parade. The members I know about included Billy Brunner, Mike Hill, Wally Haley, Brandt Ziegler, Pat Sweeney and Warren Kendrick. I drove in the main car pack just ahead of the Marines and marching bands while the other members headed up the parade. The route lead us directly to the MotorHead Madness Show put on by Poway Transmissions and is located in their parking lot along with other businesses adjacent to them; mostly automotive service companies. This show features cars of all makes and models. Most of the classes are divided into years.

This year they managed to raise $5100 for Soroptimist International of Poway (www.sipoway.org)and hosted 179 cars; their biggest year yet. The parade started at 9 am. The car show was held from 10 am – 2 pm. Our $20 fee included a hamburger lunch for two sponsored by Albertson’s, T-shirt of the show and entrance fee; a true bargain and a lot of fun.

MCSD swept the 78 and newer class. Winners included Warren Kendrick for first place for his 2005 convertible, Art  (?) grabbed second place with his 90’sconvertible and Mike Hill took third place for is tricked out 2002  Once again Pat Sweeney swept the raffle prizes with by buying $10 worth of tickets on regular prizes and four tickets for the big dog prizes. He won a Truck Step for reaching cargo on top of your SUV, Rodeo tickets ($24 value), a $25 gift certificate to Olive Garden, A three week pass to LA Fitness , two steak sandwich combo meals at Steak Escape, a free deluxe car wash at Body Beautiful, and a $100 gift certificate for a swanky Italian restaurant in Poway. I would suggest you start buying lottery tickets Pat. Check out our pictures located on the Photos 2007 page on this website.
